So I says to thu fulla, I says

Don Grose
You can always tell when golf season arrives.
My focus shifts and things that I have come
to appreciate as important parts of my
recreational schedule start to take take the
proverbial back seat...like my blog as you may
have noticed.
Sorry for not having added some music to the
webpage yet...another example of that to which I
referred...Actually the logic behind the delay
is that I'm going to have to get my webguy to
make some changes to the Golf Shop website and it
only seemed proper to do it all at once...even
that may not work out.Not a problem - things will
come together and unfold as they should.
I have written a couple of new sets of lyrics and
come up with several more melodies - now it's just a
matter of sitting down and doing it.
I ordered my new golf clubs the other day. I am
excited. For the last several years I have been
using top of the line clubs from a major
manufacturer - and frankly, I found myself wondering
just how much of a difference they made. So this
year I decided to take a different approach. Knock
offs - clones - imitations. Clubs that look every
bit like the clubs being turned out by major
manufacturers - but that are made in China. I'll
let you know about the results of the experiment
by seasons end...or as the season progresses.
Quickly now....
Advertising...why do you advertise ? Are you advertising to entertain your current customer
base or to develop new customers ? To convince
a new clientele that when they make the decision
to buy - they should shop you first. Do you
make your point once - for example at an event
time - and then bugger off until the next sale or
do you continue to make your point as often as
you can ? Convince 10 percent of the people with
passion or take your chances of making some sort
of impact on 60 percent of the population ?
I know where my money's going. I often wonder
what it is that goes through the minds of the
people in business and what it is on which they
make their decisions. One thing is sure - if you
make the same mistake over and over and over again
you'll never know just how many other ways you
could be wrong....or right.

Just Because

Don Grose
I remember my parents demanding an answer - and
being somewhat reluctant to accept, " Just because."
I remember demanding answers from my kids - and expressing the sentiment that I would not accept as a
reasonable explanation for anything - " Just because."
So I was on the phone with the bank today - not my bank - a bank that I was considering doing some business with - and the small business consultant with
whom I was engaged obviously had no idea about that which he was supposed be consulting...I felt sorry for
him really..I decided to test him and asked him why
things were done the way he was describing...his
answer was..." Just because." That is the state of
the service in the banking industry...and I have
complete faith that he was every bit as good as anyone
else that I would have contacted in a similar position
at any of the banks. And the banks are the model of
financial success right now...so...it's no wonder
business is done the way it is done across the board in
this day and age...bring'em in, sign em up and spit'em
out...
So I left the house the other day - was about five minutes away and had a tiny panic attack. I'd forgotten
my cell phone...." Young Mahster Luke - indeed, you
have surrendered your birthright and fallen victim to
the dark side." I held out as long as I could before
finally getting one - but based on my reaction to being
without it - I think even I have been seduced. I'm so
disappointed.
I'm still working on music for the website...I have some songs recorded but at this point they are still
too raw for human consumption.
I have a new logo for the Golf Shop Radio Program with which I'm quite pleased..it'll be unveiled in a couple
of weeks when we redesign the website for with new
sponsors and updates on the staff roster...I must remember to freshen things up..new golf quotes and things...Please stop by and visit...may be doing
some contesting on the website as well this year...
check it out...www.atlanticgolfradio.com.
That's it for now...hockey game's on..gotta go.
Hope you're having a good week.
Happy Trials.

Dreaming

Don Grose
Candles flicker, shadows cast -
I drift back into dream,
Your voice it calms my stormy seas -
I rest, safe, on the shore.
Chasms bridged and battles won,
fears are quashed and worries none -
I'll be with you once again when
the day is done.

The Weekend !

Don Grose
I don't usually get this excited about the weekend..
well not til Friday anyway...and here it is Friday -
and what a day it was...Since I introduced hemp
hearts to my diet two or three days ago , I've
noticed my energy level much improved...
and I'm sleeping better because I'm more active
during the day...well, anyway so I finally hauled
my carcass out of bed this morning about 7:15 and
by 8:00 , coffee in hand , I'm at my computer...
Charlene called about 12:15...it was the first
I'd stopped since I sat down. There is absolutely
no question I get a lot more done working from
home...it's great...and when I want to take a
break - I pick up my guitar and just fiddle
around for ten or fifteen minutes until my focus
is renewed..then it's right back at it..It's
great. Right now my priority project is lining
up sponsorship for my golf radio program, The
Golf Shop...we've come close the last couple of
years..I'd love to sell it out this year. I hope
to have some music up for sampling on my website
in the next week or so..I've been toying with some
new songs and experimenting with a couple of older
songs and I'll be sending Phil, my webcaddie, a few
of the recordings to post. What we'll likely do
is have a half dozen that we'll rotate every
few days..and after a few weeks we'll replace them
with some more.
If I can get brother Doug to send me some I may
include a few tunes of his at some point.
Busy weekend ahead...bottling wine and fixing the
BBQ and I have some recording to do...I also
want to get the season organized for the
features to include in the Golf Shop this
season...Right now - I'm planning a
Maritime Tour Guide with the guys who
publish the " Golf Guide To Atlantic
Canada." I know a Kineisiology Professor
who wrote a book after several years of
studying the golf swing and has some
interesting observations to make.
Yoga for Golf is something I've wanted
to get to for a couple of years now.
I'm going to do a series for the early
part of the year, where I'll interview
different people on, " What I remember
most about last season." Last season was
a big year here in the Maritimes with the
Canadian Ladies Open at Glen Arbour in
Halifax and there are several other
people I know who had excellent golf
years that will be hard to duplicate
for reasons not related to the Ladies
Open. There remain a handfull of Maritime
golf courses I still haven't played...
among those - Antigonish, the courses in
Sydney and Clare. I'd like to play
Riverview in Moncton, Sussex, Saint
John and Fredricton as well. A long
season ahead for all that.
Ad tip of the day ---- you are way
better off to convince ten percent of
the population that you are their choice
than you are to make a far too subtle,
similar suggestion to half the
population. Decide who you want to
talk to - and what they need to hear -
and tell them over and over and over
again...there can be no substitute
for endless repetition in advertising.
Become the first choice of your best
potential customers and then super-serve
them, and don't let anyone take them
away.
It works...

Colin Montgomery once said, " Stories
of bad scores seldom start with, I ripped
one down the middle."

Amen.
