Good Folks !

Don Grose
I was listening to the radio the other day..
Heard about a little girl missing out west...
a Mountie was being interviewed. His name rang
familiar. His name was the same as that of a
fellow that I'd worked with 30 years or so ago
at a TV station in Kingston Ontario.."I wonder,"
I thought to myself, knowing that the coincidence
was just too great for it be anyone else..This
co-worker had left broadcoasting to join the
RCMP and last I'd heard he was out west...so I
tracked down his detachment and fired him off
an email...the very same night I saw him on the
TV news. I'm guessing he is a very good Mountie.
He was always quietly confident...good guy, willing
to laugh at goofiness but never prone to going
over the edge. I remember him as being a religious
man, and although I am not, it is, in someone
genuine, something I admire. Gentle, good human
beings I suspect make good police officers.
He responded to my email and it was nice to hear
back from him. It's nice to make connections with
good people and it's a comfort to know they are
happy and things have gone well with them...
One of life's blessings.
I had occasion to speak with a woman who won a
significant prize from one of the radio stations
I represent ( sell advertising for ) ...All I had
to say was "Congratulations" and off she went !
Among the things she told me, in her excitement
over her good fortune, was that on the one hand
she and her family really needed the windfall -
but as happy as she was, she was almost disappointed
that others she knew who needed it even more couldn't
have won. The very fact that she had considered that
made me very happy she had won...I was very happy
for her !
As much darkness as there is in the world today, increasingly I find myself uncovering small acts
of kindness and really wonderful examples of
humanity, generousity and caring that make me
smile....and I like that. I suspect we all do.
No advertising tips today....except to say that -
my business doesn't grow unless I prospect..unless
I actively invite people to do business with me.
Is my business different from any other ?
All advertising is is giving people as many
reasons as possible to choose your business over
your competition...and often times that means
nothing more than asking them to do business with
you..
Go Oilers...Go Jays !
Happy Trails.

Wow !

Don Grose
"When I think about the day - most of all I think of
you.
In dream I see us hand in hand - old emotion burns
anew.
Most of all I see a smiling face - sparkling eyes
meet mine -
Most of all - it's you and me -
Most of All."

-First verse of "Most Of All" - Don Grose Music 2005

"Candles flicker, shadows cast, I drift back into dream.
Your voice it calms my stormy seas-
I rest safe on the shore.
Chasms bridged and battles won - fears are quashed and
worries none -
I'll be with you once again - when our day is done.

Refrain from " You are " Don Grose Music 2004

Interesting conversation - although brief - at one
point during our golf game Saturday...The Byron Nelson
without Tiger simply didn't mean anything...Three
avid sports fans and dedicated ( if not particularly
gifted ) golfers who failed to see any need to watch
the PGA on TV this weekend...Me thinks perhaps more
personality is required..
Lots of personality in the NHL Playoffs..Go Oilers !
Ray the goalie in Ottawa is being unfairly criticized
for the Senators' demise...He played well..his game
was vastly superior to that of most of his teammates
who proved once again that on "the smaller playoff
ice surfaces" where the ballet is stomped, Ottawa's
thin - skinned, play nice roster lacked backbone.
Can you imagine the Senators roster with the Oilers'
heart ?
I am going to make an effort to make a contribution
every week between now and the end of the summer.
With writing the Golf Shop every week - working -
playing golf and trying to keep the music up - it's
been hectic but I need to organize and get refocused.
So check back soon - please...by the way - if you are
reading this from outside of Halifax - you can
catch the Golf Shop Radio Program Friday evenings
at 6pm , Saturday mornings at 8AM and Monday Evenings
at 6PM on the internet at www.CJCH.ca...please drop
in..or by...( Halifax time..an hour earlier in
Ottawa, Toronto, London...three hours earlier in
Alberta )
Make a conscious effort to do something nice for
someone today...and have a terrific day yourself.
Til next time..hittem long and hittem straight..
Bless
Don
