2000 and what ?????
Don Grose
I'm hoping I'll get to seven and then as mystically
as it's hit me - my current writers' malaise will
fade away with no more fanfare than with which it's
baffled me these last eight months..I have about six
little melodies and hooks that I've been playing with,
constructing, developing, working and reworking -but for some reason - the words just won't come...and
it's not that I don't have lots to say....Lord knows
that even with the number of useless meetings I've
managed to remove from my life - there is still ample
material that remains - that produces excellent
motivation to communicate...
Try and watch the television news without being inspired to comment on either what passes for journalism or the greed, blind ambition and deception upon which our society is increasingly balanced...be concerned - be very concerned....
Who are the experts providing guidance for the people charged with making the decisions that dictate
what governments, corporations, small businesses and
even families do ? Who are they and how did they get
into the position from which they ease the rudder side
to side ? How many of them would you trust to do your private banking ? Now there's a sobering thought...
And yes there are also the rare tales of the truly wonderful acts of good and kindness that in fact we see too little of...so lots to talk about...
But getting the time - and focus - to organize thoughts into musical walkways, gondolas to ferry
ballad messages through canals of mind and heart -
there's the challenge.
Used to be two verses and a chorus were child's play.
The last verse was sometimes a challenge but I find
recently I have difficulty finishing a line on the
same thought matter with which I started. Fight through it - remain optimistic there are good things
ahead.
About eleven o'clock one night last week I was out in the driveway having one of my last cigarettes and
I looked up to experience one of life's little joys.
It's a little joy but a pure form of joy that I
truly appreciate. There wasn't a cloud in the sky.
The stars were the size of basketballs begging to
plucked and held...living in the country is full of
blessings easily overlooked...
Okay...so I've got work to do...so...headlines.
New Years Eve at Todd and Linda's...such nice people -
lots of good food to eat and lots to drink - cannons,
fireworks and playing guitar and singing til 4 AM.
New Years should be four times a year...of course they'd have to change the name.
Never mentioned Neptune Theatre's Oliver..what a
nice job ...terrific staging...the whole production
was marvellous. Those folks who've never taken in
a performance at Neptune are really missing something.
What a nice night out...
Speaking of which....Charlene and I finally had a
meal at "Seven" last week. Over the past couple of years we've been making an effort to visit as
many of the nice dining experiences as Halifax has to
offer and " Seven" lived up to it's billing.
On a scale of one to ten...ten being highest....
Food 9
Service 9.5
Room 8
We were downstairs - I'm guessing the upper area is
a tad more private..but all in all an experience
worth revisiting on all counts.
New Years Resolutions...No cigarettes, no VLT's,
no white flour, no sugar, no potato, exercise every day, play guitar everyday, and do something around the
house everyday. If I can cover those, seeking excellence in all I do, with the help of God, 2007
should be a good year.
Is there any other time you'd rather be living than
right now ?!?!? Cause you don't have a choice so you
might just as well make right now as good as it can
be.
Cheers...
