I've got it in my head, I've got it in my heart,
Its racing round in melodies I just can't seem to start.
I get new inspiration with every passing cloud
I trip on new ideas every morning as I plod
my way through each black coffee,
But the coffee just won't clear -
The fog - that keeps this song so deep inside
I stammer and I stutter as I hit each different key
the chords are there, the notes ring true, but nothing seems to be
the way it started out - my message now has changed -
Reign in these charging horses or we'll never safe escape -
The dangers that lie hidden -
and the fog - that keeps this song so deep inside.
That is the sun that shines and bathes all we see in light
It is the sun that warms and makes new grasses grow
It is the sun that drives away the mysteries of night -
that bring the fog that keeps this song inside.
That brings the fog that keeps this song inside...
Can't seem to find a shortcut - or a way to make it flow
Can't seem to navigate the course - to follow
I have the sense - with each attempt I'm closer to the goal
And better having launched the ship to find those distant shores
still hidden -
in the fog that keeps this song so deep inside.

Its probably ill-advised of me to begin these "columns"
with song lyrics. Probably scares a lot of folks away.
Not meant to...it's like a pitcher's warm-up tosses - or a
singer doing vocal exercises..it's as close to a stretching
exercise as I ever get....
Master Clubmaker and Professional Clubfitter Dana Wong
of the Village Golf Shop in New Minas knows his stuff !
I am officially on record as endorsing club-fitting and
custom club - making.
I will only add that the care and passion with which the clubmaker
and club fitter carries out the tasks I beleive are as important
as the process.
Everyone who goes to Dana for a fitting and clubs comes away
with the same reaction..." Wow..he really knows his stuff. "
"Wow..he looks at every conceivable detail." and " Must
be nice to love what you do as much as he obviously does!"
And he obviously does love his work.
Dana spent about 4 hours with me one day this winter.
He measured, and re-measured all the while explaining
what and why he was doing it.
I have to admit that as impressed as I was - I remained
somewhat skeptical. I have always beleived that my seven
handicap is the result of my limited ability to execute in
key situations - and my desire to play more than practise.
Short form - it wasn't the tools - it was the technician...
some would say in this instance - the technician and the
tool - are one and the same.
Here it is the end of May and I have now played golf in all
conditions this year ( except prime physical condition
that is ) and I want to say that custom clubs - properly
fitted - make a world of difference. While I have yet to
post any record scores after about ten previous games
I experienced golf on the weekend unlike that which I
have ever experienced...Yes, I still made the customary
mistakes - but the mishits didn't bruise like they have
in the past - and the good shots - and there were plenty -
were sooooo sweet. It was like golf the way golf was meant
to be. There is a lot to be said for standing over an iron with
confidence - knowing the ball will go where it is designed to go.
I could go on - but I won't except to say - that if you love your
golf - book a fitting session with Dana - custom made clubs
from the Village Golf Shop in New Minas is the only way to
go.
Now...had the occasion to play golf at the Links at Penn Hills in
Shubenacadie Monday of the long weekend. Booked a time to
jump in with three members out there. If you remember the
day - it was cold and gray and it had rained both Saturday and
Sunday so you knew it was going to be wet underfoot.
As it turned out my three playing partners had all cancelled -
I trust due to the weather - and I wound up playing with
Herb - a member - Jason the Assistant Pro and Pat DeCoste the
Director of Golf. Now, I've known Pat for several years - but never
been out on the course with him. My gosh...while I didn't play
sterling golf by any stretch of the imagination - the shots that he
and Jason were making look routine...something to watch.
When they tell you that the difference between a pro and an
amatuer is the pro's ability to get up and down - well - there's
a lot to that. Forty or sixty or in one instance 80 yards by your
good drive - well there's a lot to that too - and it does change the
game...but what a day...one cloudy , cold day I'm glad I didn't
miss....although I'm still bitter that my "miracle" skin got cut
on 15....I look forward to an opportunity to do that again -
soon I hope....I think the NS Mid Amatuer at Penn Hills will be a
good one the week of June 20.
