If You Experience a Four Hour Election.......

Frankly...I would dread being an American...when did the campaign start
for their upcoming Presidential election ? 1974 ?? Sweet Mother of Earth -
how many lies need to be told before a decision is made.
A month - six weeks - eight weeks - whatever the legal requirement is
in this country seems to be about all my stomach can tolerate.
I heard an exchange on radio between a Liberal and a Conservative this
morning - neither appeared overly intent on making any statement
about policy or what was good for the country or the people - it was a
game each one competing to drowned out the other...the NDP
representative wisely sat back and said nothing.
Our system of government is sadly outdated...our system of government
is incapable of grappling with the important issues before us today - heck
the political parties expend their energies hiding and hiding from - the
challenges of decades gone by.
Can you vote for the Tories ? Not based on the respect they deserve - and
certainly not based on many of the candidates they field in many ridings
across the country...
but can you vote the Liberals ? Have we as a nation already forgotten the
arrogance of the Chretien government and the absolute disdain it
exhibitted for the Canadian public ?
and what of the NDP ? Oh my God - the New Democrats share one thing
with the Liberals - the spending would start the minute they took power
and before long government would double in size.
We need a system of government where a vote in Nova Scotia carries
as much weight as a vote in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver or Whitehorse.
Then we need to wake up...Canadians are a polite, caring society...
But we've got to start speaking up ..we've got to start paying attention !
Particularly in these times we need to start casting a critical eye on what
we receive for our tax dollars. We are a very comfortable people - but
we won't be long unless some serious answers to some equally serious
questions are forthcoming from our MP's . What the heck are they
doing with all of our money ? Would you pay the kind of money you
pay in taxes to anyone else for the kind of service we're
receiving from Ottawa ?
Our taxes service one master and one master alone - Ottawa.
Any benefits we enjoy are ultimately cosmetic. Ottawa is out of
control and needs desperately to be reined in...Only after
massive change occurs in Ottawa will we see our money used
to provide the kind of health care we need, education we deserve,
and pension programs we paid for...we should be looking at the
deficiencies in these areas as nothing short of theft and those
responsible should be jailed.
Seriously...talking about this depresses me..I think I'll go and
watch one of the several CBC TV channels I'm paying for. I
can't wait for the Simpson's reruns at 6PM...and Martha Stewart,
and Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune...Ahhh ! Canadiana !
I can't think of anything more fruitfull on which to spend our
money...
Does anyone know what the CBC's annual budget is ?
Does anyone but me care ?
