A Most Unlikely Outcome

There's something blissfull about gazing over a field
of unblemished fresh snow bathed in welcome sunlight...
There's a newness, freshness, peacefullness that I
appreciate more now than ever before...don't know why -
I just do..No surprise really...I have always sought
out and marvelled at the simple masterpeices of nature.
As a kid , I loved animals, loved to wander along creeks,
through the trees, and loved to lose myself in shoulder -
tall grasses...Fondest memories of my teen years - even
more than those associated with playing music - involve
a small aluminium fishing boat and four or five hours
alone in the Trent River in the cascading water below
the dam. I called it fishing but I don't remember ever
being terribly disappointed if I never got a bite...
Tranquility is worth pursuing.
Makes me wonder what it is that calms the soul for high
level athletes...Team Canada at the World Junior Championships
in Ottawa comes to mind.
Tomorrow they battle for gold - how they get any sleep before
that is beyond my ability to imagine.
What a game against the Russians last night. I have to admit
that when Russia pulled ahead with two minutes to play, I
flipped over to the Leafs - Senators game...and the Colts -
Chargers...I did ( thankfully ) flick back with a minute or so
to play and was spellbound when Canada scored with five seconds
left to force overtime. I was left shaking my head when Canada
won in the shootout...I have to say that I was never a fan
of the shootout as a way to decide a game...but in the past
season or two I've come full circle...It makes for great
theatre.
Am I alone in thinking that Pat Quinn could very well be the
next coach of the Ottawa Senators ? The Sens lost to the sadsack
Leafs last night - Ottawa is a team without an ounce of soul...
Based on talent they should be competitive. At least the Leafs
have already declared themselves a reclamation project.
At one point prior to the playoff round at the World Juniors
Ottawa owner Eugene Melnyk embraced Quinn in a post victory
celebration...a light bulb went on at that point..players
have always said they like to play for Quinn...and the Sens
won't play for themselves and Craig Hartsburg doesn't appear
to be able to get through to them...changes are coming and
you know Quinn would love one more shot at the NHL.
I'm feeling better today.
I think my back is finally on the mend. Three weeks of wondering
whether I would ever get mobility again is being replaced with
a hint of optimism. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
One of the last episodes of Austin City Limits I saw was a
songwriters forum which included Lyle Lovett, Guy Clark, and
John Hiatt..does anyone craft better lyrics than Guy Clark ?
There's an old Texan who takes story telling to a whole new
level.
That's it..I gotta go..
Bless.
