There's a New Chill Moving In
I struggled off the golf course going on five and a half
hours ago...it was bitter. You expect bitter playing golf
this time of the year, in this part of the world - but this
was -BITTER -...If it got warmer than eight degrees today
it woud be a surprise to me...and the wind was searing...
cutting...my four layers of clothing restricted my swing
but seemed to do nothing to dull the cruel impact of the
impending change of seasons. By the time was final putt
crashed into the bottom of the cup every joint throbbed.
My feet hurt, my ankles and knees had given all they had
to give, and it was only forceful, conscious thought that
kept my back from siezing up all together. It's hard slugging
when it's cold and damp and the fairways are all saturated
from rains that moved off just 12 hours before.
More rain in the forecast tomorrow night - two more events
this week - Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
It's bad enough your body's not moving the way it needs to -
but when it's this cold the ball simply does not compress
off the club face, and anything less than perfect impact feels
like you've just hit a rock...I hit a lot of rocks today.
When we were done I had to excuse myself from customary
libations and social niceties, knowing that if I sat down
in the warm clubhouse, I would have been locked there until
my back decided I'd paid the appropriate toll to move.
I got home and immediately sat two turns in the steaming
whirlpool tub....After supper we got caught up on the two
episodes of Dexter we'd missed this season and then Charlene
went upstairs and I turned on TSN to watch the Oilers and
Blackhawks.
I wonder if either of those two entertaining teams would be
winless in seven if they played in Toronto ....Gawd it's fun
watching good hockey...Gawd it's demoralizing being the fan
of a Toronto sports franchise. The Jays, the Argos, the Leafs
and the Raptors all give new meaning to the expression -"in
complete disarray." Is there any hope ?
Spent last weekend in Philadelphia attending my brother in law
Andrew's wedding. What a tremendous weekend ! Andrew and his
bride Robyn, families from both sides well represented, the
weather held out and everything went off without a hitch...well,
except for the planned "hitching." Even the airlines failed to
cause anyone major discomfort. Met some really nice people and
I have to say that Philly impressed me greatly. It is a city I
would not mind visiting again - when I had a week. Art, culture,
history - and I escaped without having sampled a cheesesteak.
We've come a long way.
For the last several days - since we got back I been working
in the studio - pleased that the material that's resulting is
improving. The vocals are starting to come around, the harmonies
are getting a little tighter and I'm even starting to experiment
a little with my guitar playing. I'll likely post something
new on the music page of the www.atlanticgolfradio.com website
in the next couple of days and will continue to try to post
something new every week...feel free to drop in for the visit.
I hope you enjoy the music. Chances are I won't be straying far
from my folk, light pop, light country comfort zone but I am not
operating under any illusion that there's a career out there for
me...the material is simply songs that have stuck with me for
one reason or another that I like to play...and I hope you'll like
them too.
" I like the way , that your hair falls away, when the night
brings a candle to you.
And I like to stare, as you come down the stairs, when the
light fron the landing shines through...."
Renaisance David Bradstreet.
You can hear David do that song on U Tube in concert in Hamilton from
the mid 70's...really nice.
That's it...gottta run.
Happy Trials.
